Correct use of shackles

Shackles are the most commonly used type of rigging and are crucial for lifting. They are the most frequently used and relatively simple, but they are also more prone to problems. At present, there are three main ways to use shackles on the market:

The first type:

The second

Third type

Which of the three methods is correct and which is wrong? Let's explain one by one:

Before explaining, let's take a look at the stress situation of each part of the shackle, as shown in the following figure:

The first method of force application is that the force of the steel wire rope acts on the buckle, which can easily cause deformation of the shackle and cause the lifting object to fall off (due to limited testing tools, it is not possible to display the final

deformation of the shackle).

The second type of force bearing method is that during the process of lifting and pulling the steel wire rope, the friction force acting on the shackle pin shaft of the steel wire rope can easily rotate the pin shaft out, causing the lifting object to fall off and cause danger.

The third force bearing method is that the pin shaft is at the fixed end and does not rotate during the lifting process, which ensures the fastening of the shackle connection and is therefore correct.

The correct way to use shackles and precautions:

The angle of use cannot exceed 120 °

Pay attention to the direction of stress

Prohibit eccentric loads

The shaking of the force point may cause detachment

There must be a safety pin.

Finally, please note that some shackles have had their threads smoothed out after long-term use. Please test whether they can still be used before use.
