The safety hook, also known as the "main lock", is the most commonly used connection tool for connecting ropes, flat belts, anchors, equipment, and other components. The safety hook and loop must be equipped with a locking function. The locking function is divided into two categories: manual lock and automatic lock. Hand lock is suitable for most environments, but it must be locked immediately after connection, otherwise accidents may occur due to accidental collision of equipment during operation. An unlocked hook and loop is like a gate in an open state, with its tensile force (breaking load) much lower than the locked state. There are two types: ordinary type (rotary type) and spring hook (self-locking type).

The material of safety hooks is usually divided into stainless steel, alloy steel, or aluminum alloy manufacturing. The steel safety hook has a hard and heavy texture, making it suitable for connecting anchor points or in contact with sharp metal equipment, such as connecting safety harnesses and descent devices. The breaking load of aluminum alloy shackles is no less than that of steel products. Aluminum safety hooks are relatively light, suitable for connecting various equipment of personal protective equipment and carrying multiple spare parts. However, aluminum alloys are less resistant to cutting and should be avoided from hooking with other sharp metals when used.
