The wire rope clamp, also known as a steel cable clamp or rope clamp, is a core hardware fastener used to secure the end of a steel wire rope, connect, or adjust its length. It is widely employed in scenarios such as lifting and hoisting, logistics transportation, construction, and marine operations, with its performance directly determining the safety and stability of the steel wire rope system.

According to structure and purpose, rigging clamps are mainly divided into the following two categories, with significant differences in applicable scenarios:

-U-shaped card head (saddle type card head): The most common type, consisting of a U-shaped bolt, nut, and base (saddle), which is fixed to the steel wire rope by pressing the base with the bolt.
Applicable scenarios: Temporary or semi permanent fixation of small and medium-sized steel wire ropes (usually ≤ 60mm), such as binding of lifting equipment, fastening of outdoor drying racks, and traction of ordinary goods.

Wedge type card head (wedge sleeve type card head): composed of a wedge block, an outer sleeve, and a connecting ring, it automatically locks the steel wire rope using the wedge principle, and the tighter the force, the greater the force.
Applicable scenarios: Permanent or high-frequency stress scenarios of large-diameter steel wire ropes (≥ 16mm), such as crane main suspension cables, elevator speed limiter steel wire ropes, and port and dock lifting operations, with much higher safety than U-shaped clamps.

Incorrect installation is the main reason for the failure of rigging clamps, and the following specifications must be strictly followed:

1. Installation quantity: Determine according to the diameter of the steel wire rope. At least 2 pieces should be installed when the diameter is ≤ 12mm, 3 pieces should be installed when the diameter is 12-20mm, and 4 pieces should be installed when the diameter is ＞ 20mm. The distance between adjacent clamps should be 6-8 times the diameter of the steel wire rope.

2. Installation direction: The "U mouth" of the U-shaped card head should face the free end (non stress end) of the steel wire rope, and the base (saddle) should face the stress end to avoid the card head slipping when under stress; The wedge-shaped clamp head needs to ensure that the wedge-shaped block is completely embedded in the gap between the steel wire rope and the outer sleeve, without looseness.
3. Tightening torque: The nut should be tightened according to the torque specified in the product manual (such as M12 bolts with a corresponding torque of about 35-40N · m). If it is too loose, it is easy to slide, and if it is too tight, it will crush the steel wire rope strand.
4. Inspection and maintenance: Check the card head for cracks, loose nuts, and surface rust before each use; Long term use (≥ 6 months) requires regular rust removal and application of lubricating grease. If any parts are damaged, they should be replaced immediately. It is prohibited to use them again after repair.

Although the card head is small, it is a crucial link in the mechanical processing system that connects the previous and the next. Choosing the appropriate card head and using and maintaining it correctly is crucial for ensuring processing quality, improving production efficiency, and protecting equipment and tools.
