Types Of Wire Rope Clips



Wire rope clips, also known as wire rope clamps or cable clamps, are essential rigging hardware used to secure the ends of wire ropes or to create an eye termination. They come in various types, each designed for specific applications and preferences. Let's explore the most common types of wire rope clips:
 
U-Bolt Wire Rope Clip:
 
The U-bolt wire rope clip is the most widely used type of wire rope clip. It consists of a U-shaped bolt, a saddle, and two nuts. The wire rope is placed between the saddle and the U-bolt, and the nuts are tightened to secure the rope in place. This type of clip is suitable for general-purpose applications and provides a secure and reliable grip on the wire rope.
Drop-Forged Wire Rope Clip:
 
Drop-forged wire rope clips are similar in design to U-bolt clips but are manufactured using a forging process, resulting in a stronger and more durable clip. They are often used in heavy-duty applications where higher strength and reliability are required. Drop-forged clips may have a higher initial cost but offer superior performance and longevity compared to standard U-bolt clips.
Simplex Wire Rope Clip:

Grip Wire Rope Clip:
 
Grip wire rope clips, also known as grip sleeves or wedge sockets, utilize a wedge-shaped insert to grip the wire rope securely. The insert is inserted into the clip body, and the wire rope is threaded through the assembly. As tension is applied to the rope, the wedge tightens, providing a strong and reliable grip. Grip clips are often used in high-tension applications such as crane rigging and suspension bridges.
Fist Grip Wire Rope Clip:
 
Fist grip wire rope clips feature a unique design with a single nut and a hinged saddle that wraps around the wire rope like a fist. This design allows for easy installation and removal of the clip without disassembling the entire assembly. Fist grip clips are commonly used in temporary or non-critical applications where quick assembly and disassembly are required.
Each type of wire rope clip has its advantages and limitations, and the choice of clip depends on factors such as the application, load requirements, environmental conditions, and personal preference.
